Are you part of the growing R community yet?
Obviously, if you do lots of (inferential) statistics, R is a very good choice. But it is by no means restricted to that application area. With the vast ecosystem of libraries (currently 4,867) such as the great ggplot2, R’s functionality can be extended in a myriad of ways. Among others, I have used R for advanced statistics, plotting complex stratified graphics that would be hard to achieve using common desktop software and for clustering spatio-temporal point data.
If you are new to R or want to heighten your skill level, this set of video tutorials by Anthony Damico may just be for you: http://www.twotorials.com. Each tutorial is self-contained and lasts two minutes or less. If video tutorials fit your style of learning, this is an awesome resource.
Last hint: If you ever want to tweet to fellow R users, the commonly used hashtag is #rstats.
