I can attest: Shetland (and presumably also Orkney) is a great place to visit. Not just for its landscapes, Shetland ponies and puffins, but also for its people, their language and \u2013 turns out \u2013 placenames!<\/p>\n

On Shetland, you can travel from Rumblings<\/em><\/strong> to Quilse of Hageneap<\/em><\/strong>, from Poverty<\/em> <\/strong>not to riches but at least to Longa Tonga<\/strong><\/em>, from Willa Minga Honga<\/em><\/strong> via Pund of Grutin<\/strong><\/em> and Cuppa Water<\/strong><\/em> to Drooping Point<\/strong><\/em>. Turns out, Mid Dublin<\/strong><\/em> is on Shetland as well as something called Fografiddle<\/strong><\/em>! If you are a cunning geographer, you should at least once travel to Cunning Geo<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n

Orkney features similarly curious placenames: In line with Cunning Geo, you can find\u00a0Mad Geo<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0here. Or how about a trip from\u00a0Tongue of Gangsta<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0Sandi Sand<\/strong><\/em>, maybe with an excursion to\u00a0Suckquoy<\/em><\/strong>?\u00a0Grimness<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is close to\u00a0Farewell<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on Orkney. Still, this may be more attractive than\u00a0Rotten Gutter<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0Hendry’s Holes<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Mount Misery<\/strong><\/em>. Though, I wouldn’t want to miss out on\u00a0Knowes of Euro<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0Standpretty<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0Canada West<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Quackquoy<\/em><\/strong>. Somebody please elucidate the etymology<\/a>\u00a0of all this!<\/p>\n
