Cartographic Study of Musical Incest),\u00a0a project by radio host Rachel\u00a0Ratner, designer Keith Whiteman and computer scientist Golf\u00a0Sinteppadon.<\/p>\n<p>As Rachel Rutner describes in the <a href=\"http:\/\/bandmap.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/13\/hello-world\/\">project&#8217;s first blog post<\/a>, she started the\u00a0map as a nerdy personal project. The digital version of the band map features additional info which is displayed in a pop-up window upon clicking a band. I couldn&#8217;t find a legend\/colour key, so I don&#8217;t know what the different colours mean. The size of the individual nodes seems to correspond to the connectedness (or degree of incest ;) of a band with other bands.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlebandmap.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-206\" title=\"Digital Seattle Band Map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ralphstraumann.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/visurus_digital_band_map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ralphstraumann.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/visurus_digital_band_map.png 641w, https:\/\/www.ralphstraumann.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/visurus_digital_band_map-300x211.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ralphstraumann.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/visurus_digital_band_map-624x440.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I like both the simple aesthetics of the band map\u00a0(especially the paper version) as well as the idea of documenting the\u00a0personal networks of musicians through a crowdsourcing approach very much. It would be interesting to learn a bit more on the design principle behind the digital version of the Seattle Band Map.
